Navy

Navy, my favorite Military Branch. I plan on covering "most" of the information on the navy, along with requirements, basic training, job opportunities, and plenty more. My apologies on the subject "Army". I know I do not have nearly half of the information up as there is in the Army. It is just such a large Branch It would take Forever to complete it. So for now I'm adding simple stuff about each until I get them all completed and then after I will go back through and add things that are needed. So lets get to the point...

International Port's
  • Alexandria, Egypt ~  Alexandria was created by the Greeks in the 4th century BC, ordered by Alexander the Great. It was home to many ancient wonders including the legendary library and lighthouse, and was the setting for the story of Antony and Cleopatra. Today Alexandria is one of Egypt's main Ports. It has 140 miles of shoreline spotted with white sandy beaches. Its home to many ancient Ruins and Monuments, and is about 100 miles from Cairo.

Just west of the straits of Gibraltar, Rota is a major supply depot and support facility for the U.S. Sixth fleet, which is based in Naples, Italy. (An extensive transportation system throughout Europe also gives those stationed in Rota a great opportunity for travel.)

  • St. Petersburg, Russia ~ Peter the Great bulit St Petersburg in the early 1700's with the help of architects and engineers. The classic Euporean style city makes paradise for anyone interested in museums and architecture. It is overwhelmed with massive palaces, grand cathedrals, and beautifull canals and promenades.

  • Sydney, Austrailia ~ One of America's closest allies in the Pacific is a common stop for America's Navy. Sydney, Austrailias largest City and Port, is host to exciting nightlife, beaches, and recreation. Austarlia offers many outdoor activities for those who have time to spend. Here you will be able to enjoy surfing, sailing and diving, along with shopping and sight seeing.

Theres beautifull sights out there in the world. Go Explore it in America's Navy

Army (Training and Requirements)

Duration : 10 weeks

Locations: Fort Benning
                 Fort Benning, Ga.
                 Fort Jackson
                 Columbia, S.C.
                 Fort Knox
                 Louisville, Ky.
                 Fort Leonard Wood
                 Waynesville, Mo.
                 Fort Sill
                 Lawton, Okla.
 Physical Fitness Requirement:
  • Timed 2-mile run
  • 2 minutes of sit-ups
  • 2 minutes of push-ups
Unlike the Airforce that has only one boot camp location the Army has several, including Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina; Fort Knox in Louisville, Kentucky; Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Missouri; Fort; and Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma. Where you go depends on your job training. Theres more information about this at a website Iv come across: Army Installations Listing. Iv reviewed over an enlisted member's experience and thoughts and Its pretty helpful. Here's what I got.

So from what I got out from it, enlistees who are "lucky" enough to attend basic training at Fort Benning, GA are gonna be part of a test program which will change this schedule and information on BT alot. The training hasn't changed but the test program make you do way more intense field exercises. Theres more info on this website here.
Just like Airforce training your gonna want to do some preparing before you arrive at your camp. Your recruiter should give you a list for what you should and shouldn't bring to Army camp. Its not like high school "slip bye with little thing". Its "Army Boot Camp" don't bring anything that's not on the list. And if your curious about something you actually need that's not on the list ask your recruiter about it first. Your Sergeants have a way of using u as an example if you have and un-authorized items in your possession. And if you can help it, you don't wanna do anything to be awarded the MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) of "Temporary Teaching Aid".

Also very important if you smoke, dip, ect. This will be prohibited while your in Boot Camp as for any boot camp so If I were you Id get used to doing without that early in advance.

A chunk of your time is going to be Marching, Drills, Ceremonies, and lots & lots of Standing in Formation. One recruit said "Try standing in one place, ramrod straight and perfectly still. If a mosquito bites you, don't slap it. If sweat rolls into your eye, don't wipe it away. And if you scratch your thigh, do 20 push-ups and jump back into position." Yea pretty serious stuff.... Also Iv heard that it is just like "hell" at camp. Some say that being in the army is not like a regular civilian life and that you will be pushed to do stuff that may make you mad or upset u, also if they tell you to work overtime you "will" work with no additional pay. You can be kicked out and if I were you. Id just do what im told and try not to get myself in the rough. But you know people sometimes say alot of stuff and its not nearly as bad. My good friend is in the military and he always says he cant wait to get home, but he never actually dreads going in. So I would assume its not "that" bad. Plus its good pay. I would recommend you find something you actually "enjoy doing" no matter what branch your in and I think you will have a better time.

Your arms will thank you for practicing some drills before you go. Its also really good if you start ahead of the game by memorizing Army officer and enlisted ranks. And also you want to memorize Army Generals Orders before you head to Basic.

Army General Orders (For Boot Camp)

1. I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved.

2. I will obey my special orders and perform all of my duties in a military manner.

3. I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions to the commander of the relief.

From what Ive heard the biggest "un-exciting words" Around army Boot Camps has been "Core Values". That will continuously be jammed into your head during your 9 week stay. You'll sleep eat... and um eat some more about army core values until you think they're part of the Constitution.v Memorizing these will give you a little extra breather while everyone else is trying to put them in memory.(Tip: the leaders spell out LDRSHIP)

Each new recruit is given a copy of the TRADOC Pamphlet 600-4, IET Soilder's Handbook. you can give yourself a head start in learning learning some of things you'll need to know to graduate boot camp by going over this in advance. Next to Marine Corps Boot Camp, Army Boot Camp is the most physically intensive. If you are not physically active your gonna want to start as soon as possible. Concentrate on running (both sprints, and distance), push ups, and sit ups, as these are the basics for both "pre-test", and final PT test.

Meds. ~ over the counter medication wont be allowed at basic. If you bring it anyway they will take it from you. All prescription medication will will be re-evaluated by a military doctor upon arrival. If the doctors determine that it is necessary, the civilian medication will be taken away, and the recruit will be re-issued the medication by the military pharmacy. This includes birth control pills (for women). Women are usually encouraged to continue taking birth control pills during basic training, if they took them before going to basic, to ensure that their systems maintain their regular cycle.......(WOMAN QUESTION) - > As for me, im a little concerned about this because I get really bad menstrual cramps that require me to take Advil, or another form of ibuprofen. Im not sure the doctor will prescribe me anything if i were in boot camp. Im pretty sure they wont. But when i do get these cramps it usually ends up me being in bed all day because I cant move, vomiting, and bad stomach sickness. So if anyone has some helpful advice, I would be more than happy to hear it. I know birth control pills lighten your periods but what about the cramping???

*Girls, everyone of you im sure is questioning about the time of the month. Pads and Tampons are readily available, and lots of women just use them through training as normal. Bathroom breaks should be given often, so you can change them as needed. If you have an emergency, you probably will get your sergeants attention and say its a code red, or something of that sort and they should dismiss you. Most women recommend Tampons because they're smaller and easier to store and carry on your person. Also they will probably feel more comfortable on those more physically demanding days. Some have just purchased panti liners and those are small and easy to store as well. Your feminine supplies will have to go deep in a small area into your security drawer along will all your toiletries  like hair stuff, stationary ect.

*You will not have a lot of space to put stuff regardless of which branch boot camp you attend so keep it minimal and only bring a small amount. One small pack, or box of tampons/pads is fine. Every branch boot camp should have a mini store for you and your group to go buy stuff you will soon need later. Im very sure that you are allowed to carry tampons/pads on your person. I think this is the only personal item allowed in your pockets on your person. Most women due to soo much stress actually skip their period all together. Expect it to come, but if it doesn't then don't worry its normal. Everyone has different bodies. If you have an accident, don't worry. Your Sargent has been through it before, and they have a whole group of 50+ menstruating women, so don't feel awkward or scared to speak up. You should ask your Sergeant what you should say if you do have an emergency. Otherwise more than likely they will let you know in the first few days there.

*If you forget pads or tampons ask one of your groupie members, im sure they have to be going through the same thing! As now about my issue. Even if you have bad cramps and you need i mean NEED pills they wont let you "self-medicate"yourself. A good thing to do is wean yourself off pills because you wont be able to take them at basic. But yea... I don't think that's going to work for me :/ Iv heard most women just stuck in there and sucked it up. I "would" but i most likely would faint due to the pain, which yes has happened before. The doctors say its normal soo I really can do nothing about it. Now what if u spot :o well no biggie, we all may do it accidentally at one point or another so don't sweat it. your laundry crew probably wont be looking for it so they wont care. you can try to rinse it with water as soon as you can before you put it to wash but you wont have time to do anything else.

Here's some tips Sarah Lyles, who went through Army Basic at Fort Jackson, gives this advice (especially for us females) :

Rule #1: Bring plenty of undergarments to get you through about a week, because (1); having time to do laundry is scarce, and (2); finding an open washing machine is just about as difficult.

Rule #2: If you want to have a short hair-cut, go to a salon BEFORE you leave. The PX salons are about as great as letting a 3-year old with a pair of scissors cut your hair. Please, get it cut beforehand or you will be forced to fix your hair with a pair of sewing scissors! (Trust me, this takes forever!)

Rule #3: Don't take any unneeded items with you. This will just cause a ton of grief for you. Leave all the make-up, radios, magazines, etc. AT HOME. Don't believe me? Wait until you get there. The Army DS aren't too keen on people who like to hide their contraband.

Rule #4: And last but not least, get into shape BEFORE you leave for Basic Training. This will help so much. The physical training starts as soon as you get there, not a week or two after. You want your body to be prepared, not put into shock.

LeeLee62, a member of  Message Forum, graduated from Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, and gives the following advice:

Stamps and some stationary are good to bring. Take about $20 worth of quarters for the PowerAde machines, too. You will need it at Jackson.
Make sure you have an ATM card you can use from time to time to get more cash for the machines.
Get some moleskin ahead of time for use in your boots, too. It will cut down on the blisters of breaking in new boots.
At Jackson, you will probably have to buy a lot of new stuff anyway at the PX. They will give you a chitcard for about $250 to spend on assigned items at the PX. You will not be allowed to buy any items not allowed in BCT barracks. The $250 comes out of your first pay, so be ready for that.
The PX will have prepared baskets of required BCT goodies for you to buy. Things like toothbrushes, toothbrush holders, soap bar holders and all that.
Most BCT units require you to buy new running shoes, so don't bother getting new ones before you go. Make sure the shoes you wear to Reception at Jackson are very comfy. There is no telling how long you will have to run in them before you get out of Reception.
Only exercise when the drills tell you to exercise. They don't want you getting hurt before you actually go to BCT. You can't run, do push-ups, nothing, without their ok. It will probably drive you nutty.
Some folks got trapped at Reception for nearly a month. Don't let it get you down if that happens. The real Army isn't at Reception. Hell, it isn't even at BCT or AIT, but you will see what I mean.
While at Reception make sure to stay in your own lane, do what the Drill Sergeants tell you to do, and don't gossip or get into other people's business. That seems to be the quickest way for fights to occur. You do not want an Article 15 (nonjudicial punishment) before you even start BCT.
Theres TONS more info on Army Basic Training here.

( I have decided to add a little more army Inormation I hope you find it helpfull )

Hey everyone! Welcome to my Blog. Interested in The Military??? Well if you are then your in luck. I have just started posting recently so excuse some website imperfections and the small amount of posts. So far I'm trying to post as much as I can for you guys! There's a Tab "a lil about me" you can go checkout if your curious of who I am. I hope you guys find some of my future posts helpful and don't forget to comment questions, etc. I'm looking forward to helping you guys and cant wait to talk to you all. :) see you soon!
Ok so most of you guys may ask what field in the military I plan on joining. I want to be a Navy Pilot. I find flying fascinating and cant wait to get up there. At first, of course I was looking for just any aviation in general but then When I looked at the navy, they had lots more options and I knew id probably benefit more in the Navy. Also i love travel so being on an aircraft carrier most the time across different sea's is just perfect for me. But again I'm trying to decide between Marines and the Navy. Im not sure if the marines have an Aviation crew but I will look that up soon. All the fields usually pay the same so that's not much a difference. At first I was kind of iffy about being on a ship all the time but its worth it in my opinion. Now the Air force is wonderful, don't get me wrong :). That actually was my original choice. But then I really wanted to travel out there all around the world, and I'm sure you do that in the air force but to be a navy sailor is a dream for me. Everyone has different views. What matters is that your choosing to serve your beloved country :). So anyways whether your a Recruit, Enlisted, a Sergeant, or Veteran  give me some feedback :) I would highly appreciate it.

Who am I?

Hi everyone. Just here to tell you about myself. I am fourteen years old, and I know that seems a young age to be getting advice for the military but everything I post is actually true. I'm learning new stuff every day! Of course if you doubt anything I say just tell me and I will double check on what I have said ok :). I come from a little town not too far from Gainesville Florida "home of the gators!". For now I still live at home with the family and I'm so eager to graduate in these next four years it just seems to take FOREVER lol. I'm sure most everyone remember how that feels. I'm very nice, I love to help people, after the military I plan to take culinary arts and become a chef ( my dream since childhood ). My purpose of starting this blog is to help you questionful people and to help these years fly bye :). That pretty much the basic information about me, hope you like the blog and find it very helpful ttyl!

Welcome :)

Ahhh, the wonderfull smell of newbies! Yep, you will be named "sneaker weakers"
for the next 2 to 3 weeks so get used to it :) bmt (basic military training) is probably going to be the worst 8 1/2 weeks of your life. Bmt will transform you from a civilian to a tough American hero. There will be lots of yelling, mostly during the first few weeks and after you will start getting used to the routine and keep yourself from messing up. So anyways let's get to it. Here's some sub-headings that I will post more as I go to giv you in depth info on the military. Here we go!

Essentials for bmt

Ok so when you enlist in the Military you are going to receive a list of items required to take with you to bmt (basic military training). Your recruiter will give you a paper listing all the things to bring. But I'm going to give you insider information that you will wish you knew before heading over to bmt. Lets get started

ok so this is not the packing list for all categories of the military. This is the packing list for the Army. Also this may not be accurately up-to-date so i personally would not follow this packing list. This is just an idea of what it might look like. Technically they most likely will hand you a hand-typed paper containing all the items needed for purchase. Remember if you have any questions at that point ask the requiter. So here's some things you need to know...

Packing List Helpers :)

  • 15-20 copies of money orders ~ Yea kinda allot but it will pay off in the end. They possibly might be taken away but theres a slight chance of that happening. If you are already a reservist or guardsmen the more the better. You will need one in your pocket at all times and I'm tellin ya, its gotta still look crisp and at perfection. Also when you get to tech. school you will need allot also. You should bring these in an accordion file when you will be glad you had by the end of bmt.
  •  Unit personnel Records ~ These papers are your information records that your requiter will hand you during your enlistment. Always keep these with you either on your person or in your carry-on luggage. These are good to keep in your accordion folder along with your money orders.
  • Social Security Card ~ Yep you wanna bring this and another form of id like your drivers license. Most reservist will already have their Military Id's where as active duty trainees wont. If you have your military ID bring it.
  • Glasses ~ If you wear prescription glasses bring them. Make sure you have your current prescription with them. They will take them and use them to make your new military goggles, and frame of choice glasses for bmt. Don't bother bringing your contacts with your pretty little contact case because you will not be allowed to wear them in bmt. You will be allowed to wear them in tech. tho so if you want u can get your family members or friends to bring them for you.
  • 3 Days worth of Clothing ~ nothing outstanding just stay with neutral colors like tan, grey, black, white. Refrain from wearing anything with logos, or symbols on it. Like I said very simple clothes. You can bring Polo's, or any regular T-Shirt. Khakis are ok and jeans are also ok. you can wear your running shoes with those. Girls, if you wear a regular bra one of these days you can also wear it with your formal dress uniforms later on at bmt. Otherwise, wear your sports bras.Depending on the weather when you ship to bmt you should bring a light jacket. It'll be handy at tech school. If you wear bright colors, cheetah print, or symbolic apparel your mti's (military training instructor) will point you out as an example of what you should NOT wear.
  • Pens ~ yes bring some of these. you will want either blue or black ink. Black i would recommend because they will want you to fill out all your document papers or sign stuff in black but bring some blue just in case. Also it good to bring some of your own sharpies to mark your laundry. They will give you some pens but its good to have your own ;)
  • Shampoo ~ Do not bring a fool size bottle. All your need is a travel size shampoo just to last you till your first mini-mall run. Make sure its store bought travel shampoos. Any unmarked bottles they will throw away.
  • Deodorant (non- aerosol) ~ Clear deodorant I would recommend because you are going to have to clean the surface for inspections every day before you display it in your security drawer. You can bring solid deodorant also, your deodorant is just gonna have to be 100% spotless for inspection.
  • Toothbrush ~ none of those travel size ones. They will want you to have a full size toothbrush. Don't bother bringing your electric toothbrushes as they will not let you use it.
  • Shaving (guys) ~ I'm not a guy but i do know that you will be shaving practically every day so i would recommend bringing a non electric shaver with multiple replaceable blades. As for shaving cream I'm also not completely sure, but i would probably bring a small thing of shaving cream to get you through the first week until you go on a mini-mall run. I'm sure if you don't bring some, a buddy can let you use some of theirs.
  • Toothpaste ~ don't bring a big tube. Try to bring a small travel size one with preferably a snap cap. you are gonna need to clean the cap for inspection and with the screw cap its nearly impossible. you can bring it with a rectangle hard case to put it in. You may or may not get a special military one.
  • Bathing Shoes ~ ok so at the Basic Exchange (bx) you can purchase some for 1$ but you can always get your own before you go. If you are, you need to get them in the color black. and make them cheap. Nothing fancy or expensive.
  • Soap ~ ok so you can bring bar so but i highly DO NOT recommend bringing one. You are gonna have to remove all the suds after showering for inspection, yea, tell me bout it. The best thing is to buy a travel size soap and purchase one later at the bx. Something white so if your soap spills in your drawer or cubby it wont stain your clothes or towel.
  • Tampons & Pads ~ If you have a preferred brand bring it. the smaller amount the better. You are going to have to shove these int he back of your security compartment in a small place. Put them in a Ziploc bag to keep them in a tight small form.
  • Bras/Sports Bras ~ you want to bring one regular cupped bra for when you wear your dress uniform. You should bring 6 sports bras but you can get away with not having 6, but you will want enough to last you through loads of laundry at tech school. Its better to have more than you need than have too little. Its best to find ones that are easy to fold with no imperfections.Should be in black, grey, white or tan.
  • Hair ties, Bobby Pins, Ect. ~ Bring full new packages of hair ties, bobby pins, hair pins ect. I think conair has these sets of hair accessories that says true match i think. Blonde's, you cannot wear any other color hair accessories than your color hair. To put your hair into a bun use a conair bun maker. i will post a video later.
  • Underwear ~ you want to bring 6 pairs, but like i said you can probably bring less. i would recommend 6 though. They should be in colors of white, tan, black or grey. I read that Under Armor Briefs are the bomb. They fold perfect and are the best for keeping perfect for inspection.
  • Brushes and Combs ~ Bring or purchase one at the bx. if you bring one bring a black one or ordinary colored one that is small.
  • Shaving Items (females) ~ By the time they finally let you shave you are going to want a nice razor not a cheap throw away kind. The Venus razor is good, just bring some extra blades with you. It will need to be displayed in your security drawer untouched until you mti authorises you to use it. Don't bother with shaving cream, aerosol cans are big no-no's. Get a razor with shaving cream on the blades.
  • Stamps ~ bring some if you want to send letters to family and friends. You may not get to buy some till you go to the bx so bring some to last you for a few days (not a bunch).
  • Watch ~ If you don't bring your own u will will buy one at the bx. Nothing expensive or fancy, just a regular water proof watch in black to keep time. Its important to be on time wherever you go. Also it is good for waking up a few mins. early to get ready in the morning. Especially us ladies.
$ Money Savers $
  • Laundry Detergent ~ No you wont need any. You and your crew will be provided with some for everyone to use. you will share the cost.
  •  Toothbrush Box ~ you can bring one but i don't guarantee that you will use it after the bx. They "may" want you to purchase a specific one later. So if you want you can bring in it in a Ziploc bag or whatever.
  • Notebook Paper ~ no you will not need any. Most likely they will let you go buy your own little note pad but you can bring one. You might want to have one when you first get there. Especially with all the stuff they teach you in those first couple of days. you can keep all your document papers in your accordion file.
  • Spray Starch/Iron ~ Lol nope, you are there to train not to look snazy. for your dress uniforms they will have the stuff you need to make it look decent.
  • Foot Powder ~ you may need some of this but you should wait till you get to the bx. And see how much room in your cubby area you have left.
  • Batteries ~ for flashlight.. no. you can buy some at the bx.
  • Calling Card ~ if you cut your service before you go and buy a refill card so you don't pay while your gone.... well i suggest you just keeping it. just stay with your plan and forget all the card reload hassle okay :) bring you phone and charger

Maybe Items
  • Panty Hose ~ you wont need very many. you actually only need one or two pairs. Its a whole lot better to buy them at the bx. You probably wont use them since they may just make you wear pants not a skirt. If you think ur size is hard to find you can bring one navy pair and one tan pair.
  • Stationary ~ you can bring your own (if you do don't bring an excessive amount) Or you can buy some at the bx.
  • Sewing Kit ~ Yea from what iv heard its really beneficial to bring your own sewing kit.(the little one) don't make it pink or whatever, like i said guys, neutral colors. If you don't buy one before you go your going to buy one at the bx.
  • Pairs of Socks ~ you can bring a few pairs 2or 3. I would personally bring like ankle sock because i don't like crew socks but crew socks may actually be more beneficial so bring crew. but you can wear short socks going down there. But you will be able to wear the socks you want until they issue your uniforms so wear whatever sock type you like :) btw NO COLORS lol neutral guys.
  • Spandex Shorts/Compression Shorts ~ Yea baby you gonna want these big time. You don't want to be stretching and you mtis looking at your bloopers :) . The recommended Brand that iv heard are excellent for bmt are the Under Armor Heat Gear compression shorts. Either length is fine, they are going to be worn under you physical training pants so length doesn't matter. This is only if your pt wear are shorts. im not sure but i think in the winter they have u wear sweat pants, idk. They are not that pricey. probably like ranged from $7 to $20 i haven't checked. you wanna buy like 2 or three pairs. The UA logo is gonna have to be gone so sharpie can do the trick :)
